The city of Miami is in Miami-Dade County, and the county corrections system handles all jail bookings for the area. With close to 487,000 people, Miami is the second largest city in Florida. Arrests made by Miami police go to the county jail for processing. Miami Inmate Search Online

Miami-Dade Corrections runs an online inmate search tool at miamidade.gov/Apps/mdcr/inmateSearch. This is the fastest way to find booking reports for someone arrested in Miami. The system shows people who are currently in custody. You can search by name to get results that include charges, bond amounts, and the booking photo.

The corrections department describes its mission as providing "safe, secure and humane detention of individuals in our custody while preparing them for a successful return to the community." That means the booking process in Miami follows set procedures. Every person booked goes through intake, which creates the booking report. These reports are public records under Chapter 119 of the Florida Statutes. Anyone can ask to see them.

How Bookings Work in Miami

When someone is arrested in Miami, local police bring them to the Miami-Dade county jail for booking. The main facility is at 2525 NW 62nd Street in Miami. This is where the booking report gets created. The process includes taking photos, collecting fingerprints, and logging all charges.

Under Chapter 943 of the Florida Statutes, all adults charged with a felony or misdemeanor must have their fingerprints and facial images captured and sent to the state system. This means every booking in Miami feeds data into the statewide criminal justice network run by the Florida Department of Law Enforcement. The FDLE keeps these records and makes some of them available through its own search tools.

Miami-Dade also offers inmate services like phone access, mail, and in-person visitation. Trust accounts let friends and family deposit money for commissary items. The iCare program offers pre-packaged gifts that can be sent to inmates in the Miami-Dade system.

Public Records and Miami Arrests

Florida has some of the strongest public records laws in the country. Booking reports in Miami are open to anyone. You do not need to be a family member. You do not need to give a reason. The law is clear on this point.

Chapter 901 of the Florida Statutes covers arrest procedures and has a key section on booking photos. Under Section 901.43, it is illegal for websites to charge money to take down booking photos. If a site asks you to pay, you can take legal action. The law allows a civil penalty of $1,000 per day for sites that do not remove a photo within 10 days of a written request. That goes up to $5,000 per day if they put the photo back up after removing it.

Some records are not public, though. Juvenile booking records, sealed or expunged records, medical files, and victim data are all kept private. These rules apply across all of Miami-Dade County.

Note: Keep a copy of any removal request you send so you have proof of the date.

State Databases for Miami Residents

Beyond the county system, Miami residents can also search state-level databases. The Florida Department of Corrections inmate search covers all state prisons. If someone from Miami gets sentenced to state prison, their record will show up there. The data gets a full refresh each week, with release dates and location changes going in each night.

The Florida Department of State resource directory also lists all county jails statewide. This is useful if you need to check booking records in a different county.
